The works for our new project have started.   We are going to try to realize a well in the village of Shantie Bamba, located 24 kilometers from Toubacouta, in the steppe.   The village is completely cut off from the outside world and difficult to reach.  You can't even find it on Google Maps.

About 400 people live in the village who do not have access to fresh water.  During the rainy season, of course, there is no problem, but during the dry season, which can last up to six months here, they have to go by donkey and cart to a neighboring village to get water.
This substantial lack of fresh water naturally causes shortages in several areas :
  • Drinkable water for food preparation and personal hydration.
  • Water for personal hygiene.
  • Water for irrigating plants and growing vegetables.
  • Water during use of craft processes such as dyeing fabrics etc....
We were able to start this new project thanks to the help of a number of parties.  First of all, a financial contribution from Laurens Vanthoor, Belgian racing driver with a social commitment, through his project : "The Larry Foundation".

The municipality of Toubacouta who will help with the transport of building materials, and a number of young people from the area who will roll up their sleeves.  A well will have to be dug to a depth of at least 22 meters!  This is a particularly big challenge.  Consequently, a number of exciting days await us....

Thanks to this project, we once again come to the attention of the municipality of Toubacouta, which can only help us in the future with the realization of new projects.  If you would like to do your part, and help us make a very big difference with small projects, please contact us.
